Background

GEAR UP is a six-year partnership grant through the U.S. Department of Education that has and continues to provide services to selected middle school students.

GEAR UP serves a cohort of students who enrolled with the program in sixth grade at North Park Middle School, Los Nietos Middle School, and Columbia Elementary School in 2006.

These students have been followed throughout the six-year period and through GEAR UP's services have been provided academic tutoring, college access and advisement, and parental education and support all in an effort to increase the college application and interest rate.

This cohort of students will graduate from El Rancho, Pioneer and El Monte High School in June 2012, respectively, through LEARN's support and encouragment of a culture of learning.
